Less numbers of paper to sign than I've had before, but it makes sense since it's not actually a house. I learned a few things about Totes. Seattle has a lot of regulations with Houseboats, I've linked some of the explanations before. My boat has a bit of history that only matters because of those regulations.
Currently my hull was built in 1995 and everything above it was totally redone in 2016 making me the third occupant (second owner). However today I learned that my boat was actually 'created' in 1935. Now nothing is left of that original boat, but legally that initial houseboat is what I own. It was 40 ft long hull and I can't change that footprint, ever. To get a bigger houseboat I have to buy an existing one that already has a bigger footprint. It's a little sad, I'd love to put a longer hull on and give myself more lower deck space, but I knew this when I started so there aren't any surprises.
I take the bus downtown tomorrow to get the money wired and we are estimating that we close maybe Tuesday? Since the movers don't come until Friday I am not concerned. This is so exciting!
Stuff going to my mom's is packed and ready to go, that is getting picked up on Thursday. I gave my complex my 'intent to move out' notice that gives me until the 22nd, so I should have plenty of time. I do have one piece of furniture that is unclaimed that isn't going, a very large antique dresser, but worse case I'll pay someone to haul it away. I've emailed a few antique stores to see if they are interested.
I will have the keys this week!

Final Walk-through Finished! And my search for a Handyman
Final walk through this morning, the new dehumidifier looks great and is in a really easy to access spot! (ok relatively easy) I took pictures for the screen people, hopefully it gives them enough info so we can make that appointment.
No papers to sign today so I went to work. I'll sign them this weekend and hopefully we close next week! We had better, I have movers scheduled for next Friday! The only other big appointment will be getting the internet hooked up, but since the cable is already there hopefully it won't be too bad.
Now I'm looking for a handyman. My bed has a TON of storage under it, something that is at a huge premium on a houseboat, but getting to it is going to be super problematic the way things are set up now. Also there isn't an outlet on the bed side of the room, I"m gong to need to plug in my alarm clock! It looks like the people who can do stuff like this are booked for the summer, I've gotten a lot of 'sorry I can't help you' emails back this week. I didn't want to go through Amazon home simply because it's more expensive, but I'm almost to that point.
My idea is to put in pistons so the top of the bed can lift (getting the top of the bed so it could be lifted may be more difficult) and then I could get under it easier and get to that dead storage space. It would be for things that I wouldn't access very often of course, but there were whole square feet in there and I would hate to have it just be dead space. While I could probably get my mattress off I highly doubt I could get it back on, so I'm going to have to come up with something.
This is all starting to come together! We'll see how much I actually get done this weekend and where I am by the time the first set of movers show up next week.

The Waiting Game.... and scheduling movers
Bank has the insurance info, they're sending the docs to the lawyer, hopefully I can go sign the papers tomorrow! We have a chance of closing on Friday!!
That is all out of my hands at this point, I need to hear from the Escrow Lawyer and then go the bank stuff etc. Waiting is hard!
I am having trouble scheduling movers, the one quote I have for the long distance part wants to schedule me out two weeks from now, ummm no. I'll get more quotes, but I need to schedule local movers and I was going to get the long distance one done first but it's looking like that isn't happening. I can do it the other way around it's just a lot more complicated. Complicated it is!
Ideally I spend the weekend packing up and the local movers come sometime next week, in the meantime I can start moving all of the stuff I already have packed or just came from Amazon over there over the weekend and start moving stuff to the new storage unit. This is becoming real!!
I know this blog hasn't had a lot of pictures, mostly because I don't have access to the boat. I will make up for that after we close :) I'll post updates as we start moving furniture in and let everyone see how hard it is to arrange furniture in such a small space!
Omg this is really starting to come together!

Looks like we're closing Friday!
Today has been a huge roller coaster of emotions. First we were closing Wednesday, then maybe earlier, now nope lets try to close on Friday! Thankfully the hold up won't be on my side, the work fixing the issues won't be done until Thursday so the inspector and I will check them out on Friday and then hopefully we close!
Logistics are starting to become a thing. I think I've decided to not make any real changes and live there for a bit, see what works and what doesn't. Then haul the whole thing out next Spring and make all of the changes I wanted that don't include a new hull or expanding another room (formally known as 'Phase One'). That means I start getting estimates from movers and start getting this thing rolling!

Purging some more
I have a friend, and she knows who she is, who is crazy about KonMari and de-cluttering, having less things. While I'm not quite to that point I have been constantly downsizing for the past three years, and am about to do the biggest jump yet.
I've talked about this before, but to summarize, at the end of May 2015 I moved out of an 1830 sq ft home and in August of 2018 I'm moving into something that is closer to 350 sq feet than 400. This means downsizing and purging!
Today I tackled my closet. I got brutal, I mean how many little black dresses do I really need? (answer: 4 and one that is a 'goal' dress, but I got rid of at least five more), how many pj sets do I need? (answer: 2 not counting nightgowns) and how many shirts that I know don't look good anymore and am I really going to wear again? (answer: one goal one, the rest went into the donation bag). I kept anything I've worn recently, a few goal pieces but I went through the 'nice dresses' and got rid of most of them. And I may go back and pull more, I haven't quite decided yet.
Shoes will be easy, while I have more than a few pair I don't have a 'shoe problem', though the handbags will be after that, and those are more difficult. I am at almost 4 rather large trash bags of clothes to donate, and I'm not sure I'm done. There is only one closet in totes, and while I will have a storage unit with a wardrobe in it for 'off season' clothing, the goal is to have as much on the boat as I can.
My ultimate goal is to not feel that I need to invite my friend over to help me make the hard choices. So far so good.

Moving is hard!
I'm sure I'll say that many times before this is finished!
Because I'm moving onto a boat I'm sending some stuff to my mom's house. She's getting art, antiques, books, a few bookshelves, and whatever is in the storage unit. I am going to spend the next few holidays unpacking at her house and trying to be as un-intrusive as I can possibly be. But that packing is done! Everything except the sheets for the bed because I'm going to sleep on it, but one step closer!
I have a mover coming on Tuesday for that part of the estimate, and hopefully I can get that stuff out asap. Things are coming together though! Have a taker for the chest freezer and the big TV, some kitchen stuff and some of the outdoor furniture. I think I'll feel more confident when I get the basics into the new place and then can see what can still come. Gonna have movers do the couch and entertainment center and other big things, then I'll probably borrow/rent a truck for the little things.
Just waiting on the insurance! It's so close!!

Closing no longer delayed!
After all of the issues with the owners not being sure about the inspection claims it all changed this afternoon. From what I understand they had contractors out today to give them estimates. The initial plan was to get those estimates and they'd let me know next Monday. About 3:30 today I got a signed form saying they had agreed to all of my demands. My bet is that the contractors said the same thing my inspector said and they realized it was going to have to be fixed.
So we are looking to close next Wednesday! Omg!! I had resigned myself to a few more weeks and now suddenly I have to do all of the things!!
My lease isn't up until the beginning of October anyway so I need to decide how much stuff I want done before I move in. I am in the process of getting finding people to give me estimates on all the things, then I can decide what gets done and what can wait.
But we are trying to close in a week! Next step is applying for insurance and the slip. Hopefully that can get done in time for the loan to fund and all works out.
